Aloha,
Please help save the birthplace of King Kamehameha III, historical Keauhou Bay from Kamehameha Schools bungalow resort development because they have submitted their EIS draft to develop Keauhou Bay into an overcrowded bungalow resort development for tourists and there are many resorts and vacation rentals already surrounding Keauhou Bay.
Because it is scientifically proven developments severely pollute nearby waters. Please read these scientific reports:
Manta Rays are in this bay every night and they eat zooplankton. "Zooplankton are also affected by levels of pH, heavy metals, calcium, and aluminum. Nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus will affect the prey of zooplankton (like algae, protozoa and bacteria), indirectly affecting zooplankton survival." https://www.marinebio.org/creatures/zooplankton/#:~:text=Zooplankton%20are%20also%20sensitive%20to,light%2C%20and%20increases%20in%20predation.
Please read more scientific reports that prove development kills coral, marine life and devastates nearby waters because Keauhou Bay's ecosystem is in jeopardy https://bigislandsupport.com/kbayinfo/.
Keauhou Bay is listed "Impaired Water" by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and this bay NEEDS to be protected and not polluted even more by Kamehameha Schools Bungalow Resort Development and this would go against the US EPA. https://mywaterway.epa.gov/waterbody-report/21HI/HI713293/2020
Their Bungalow Resort development also goes against the Cultural Impact Statement Law https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/sessions/session2020/bills/SB3152_ because Marissa Harman told me they were going to make the Keauhou Canoe club smaller and the club would have to get rid of their OC1 canoes, their one man canoes to make room for their bungalow resort tourists. This goes against the Cultural Impact Statement Law because canoe paddling, training for canoe racing, fishing, net fishing, baptisms, celebration of life services are all cultural practices that are practiced in small historical Keauhou Bay and these practices are protected under the Cultural Impact Statement Law.
Volleyball is also played at Hawai'i state university and many Hawaiian and local kids and local adults play volleyball at Keauhou Bay and have played there for many, many years. This is now a cultural practice and Kamehameha School's wants to take out the volleyball court to make room for their bungalow resort and this is also against the Cultural Impact Statement Law.
This bungalow resort development will add hundreds more people to this very small bay and this will have serious negative effects on ALL these cultural practices that have been in this local bay for years and this development goes against the Cultural Impact Statement Law.
Please Stand with ALL of Us and Help Save Keauhou Bay from Kamehameha Schools Bungalow Resort Development because this historic Bay needs to be preserved and protected.
Please, Mālama ‘Āina.
